Induction day

New staff at Durack and staff from other schools, particularly in the Inala Cluster, are involved each year in our annual Induction Day.

Following an orientation session at Durack, the group visits (in no particular order) several of the following destinations as available to us at the time.

  • The Inala Elders - where they can gain knowledge of the Inala story and a greater understanding of protocol and the Elders point of view regarding their role, the education of indigenous children, barriers and solutions
  • Inala Wangarra - a group involved with Styling Up, dance workshops, indigenous games and other activities
  • Wandarrah Pre-School - which works at giving indigenous students a head start
  • Inala Community Health and if available Dr Noel Hayman, Clinical Director of the Inala Indigenous Health Service ( winner of the 14th Deadlys Award for outstanding achievement in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; 2011 QLD Australian of the Year) )
  • Indigenous Schooling Support Unit Library, in Kittyhawk Ave, Inala - an Education Queensland resource centre
  • Mission Australia  -  which assists families in the raising of their children, organises playgroups, fosters circles of care among many activities.
  • Glenala State High School - to learn about their indigenous and transition programs
  • Ngutana-Lui, The Catholic Education Indigenous cultural centre in Inala
